The holiday apartments of Villa Agreste near Ostuni have a very special flair. Villa Agreste is a country estate from the 18th century and is situated on a 20 hectare property in the middle of olive groves. The preserved subterranean oil mill is even older – it originates from the 16th century and makes history tangible. The apartments – former outbuildings to the oil mill – have been renovated in 1999 and reconstructed into charming holiday apartments.
On the property of Villa Agreste you have four holiday apartments to choose from. All apartments provide kitchen, bathroom (WC, shower, bidet), an open fireplace and also heating, which can be fully regulated by yourself. In the kitchen you are offered a special service: homemade cold-pressed olive oil is complimentary to round off your meals.
You may also have your meals outdoors, since each apartment has its own small terrace with garden table and chairs.
Anyone looking for company can visit the lovingly designed roofed patio with barbecue grill and pizza oven. It is surrounded by lemon trees and offers a great atmosphere for snug and joyful summer nights.
The holiday apartments are all similarly outlined, furnished and equipped as mentioned above and in general vary only concerning their size.
Holiday apartment Sole (max. 3 pers.):
Small but nice is the motto here: the holiday apartment offers sleeping possibilities for 3 guests. A separate bedroom with double bed adjoins to the kitchen-cum-living room with sleeping couch.
Holiday apartment Luna (max. 3 pers.):
The kitchen-cum-living room of holiday apartment Luna offers a sleeping couch. A double bedrrom provides for two further sleeping possibilities.
Holiday apartment Cornucopia (max. 4 pers.):
The holiday apartment is located next to the holiday apartment Sole, but is a bit larger. Two double bedrooms accommodate up to four guests. Holiday apartment Girasole (max. 5 pers.):
Girasole, Engl.: sunflower, offers the most space of all holiday apartments. It has a double bedroom as well as a three-bedroom (bunk bed and single bed). A small, separate part of the garden is for your own private use.
Children may light-heartedly explore the ample property. Horses on the paddock underline the idyll. The driveway is lined with palm and olive trees. Anyone afraid of gaining weight due to the irresistible Italian cuisine may use the fitness path with its 18 stations for compensation.
During the hot summer days the new pool at Villa Agreste gives you a welcome refreshing. Also you can relax on the deck chairs or you can swim a little bit.
If you like it more easygoing, you may circle the property on a ca. 4 km walking path. The scarcely frequented roads in impressive landscape are also very charming for bikers. Two bicycles are for rent upon request. You may park your car on the fenced property.
The olive tree is one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world and used to be worshipped as a holy plant. Today its oil is still used in the preparation of salty and sweet dishes, as well as in the production of cosmetics and ointments. These traditional trees provide the living for Villa Agreste.
The cultivation of the olives and the production of olive oil follow organic and environmental aspects. An old Italian saying suggests that sun, silence, dryness, rocks and loneliness are essential for the growth of healthy and delicious olives. This special atmosphere is also present on the estate. The tourist use of the country estate is oriented along the overall concept of sustainability.
Upon request, you may take part in a wine and oil tasting in the historical walls of the ancient oil mill. Please ask the Iaia family, who lives in Villa Agreste. The owners will also help you with questions about guided tours in the Salento and other wishes.
Ostuni, which is about 6 km away, is called the white town of Apulia. The town is situated 218 m above sea level and enchants with its shiningly white-painted houses. In the 10th and 11th century the town evolved upon the remnants of Messapian origins. One should take the time to stroll through the labyrinthine alleys and take in all the impressions.
Within 6 km in eastern direction, the Adriatic coast is reached. The water quality is exceptional, the coast has been awarded the blue flag for many years now. Still going farther south, you come upon the “Riserva Naturale Torre Guaceto”. This 1100 hectare stretch of the coast is under environmental protection and offers an impressive submarine habitat.
