The picturesque bike trail along the 19th century aqueduct waits to be discovered by ambitious cyclists.
Well marked out trails take you 250 km southwards – from the charming landscape of the trulli valley in the north, past the nature reserve and fantastic sandy beaches around Porto Selvaggio and Nardò, to Santa Maria di Leuca, once considered the 'end of the world'.
Should you dread cycling all the way, then hop onto one of the quaint local trains in between to get from one place to the next.
As most of the train stations are located in the center of the idyllic villages, for example Martina Franca or Nardò, you might even spare some time for a stroll through the village.
As the Apulian people are open-minded, friendly and kind, getting to chat with the locals on a train ride is not at all unusual – even if you have to use hands and feet to communicate, because your knowledge of the Italian language is not too good.
