In Valle d’Itria (Itria Valley) you still find numerous dwellings known as trulli.
Trulli are dry-stone houses, i.e. built without using mortar. The Count of Conversano, Gian Girolamo Ii di Acquaviva (1600-65) is said to have developed this method of building, which is specific to Itria Valley.
In order to evade the royal court’s taxation on property, charges to be paid on immovable property, he ordered his subjects to live only in these dry-stone houses which could quickly be dismantled when royal inspectors were about to arrive.
Some years later, Gian Girolamo was sent to exile because of other offenses. The farmers in Itria Valley kept to this method of building the trulli, as their specific architecture of solid natural stone with very strong walls and small windows provides good protection against the heat in summer and keeps the warmth inside in winter.
The owner of I due Trulli has put a lot of work into restoring the old stone houses and has turned them into modern and comfortable holiday apartments.
There are altogether 4 trulli on the spacious premises. We have chosen for you the two holiday apartments Fico d’India and Ulivo, which accommodate up to 4 persons each.
Holiday apartment Ulivo includes a living room with couch, dining table and fireside, a bathroom with shower, WC and bidet and a kitchen with refrigerator, oven, microwave and gas stove.
The trullo has a normal bedroom with double bed as well as a sleeping gallery, which is reached via a ladder from the bedroom and which offers sleeping facilities for two.
Holiday apartment Fico d’India is similar in lay-out. There is a living room with a large dining table and a fireside, a kitchen with refrigerator, gas stove, oven and microwave as well as a bathroom with bathtub, WC and bidet.
However, this apartment offers two normal bedrooms with double beds.
Each trullo has its own private outdoor area with furnished terrace: outdoor table and chairs, sun loungers, sun shade and outdoor shower.
A great part of the 20,000 m² fenced premises is planted with olive trees.
Both trullis are furnished with washing machine, SAT-TV, fireside, outdoor shower, gas heating and free Wi-Fi.
Parking: You can park your car on the fenced premises.
