I due Trulli - Trulli holiday apartments at Cisternino

Charming landscape and unique architecture

In Valle d’Itria (Itria Valley) you still find quite a number of dwellings known as trulli. These dry-stone houses were built by stacking stone upon each other without using mortar or any other materials.

The Count of Conversano, Gian Girolamo II di Acquaviva (1600-65) is said to have developed this method of building, which is specific to Itria Valley. In order to evade the royal court’s taxation on property, charges to be paid on immovable property, he ordered his subjects to live only in these dry-stone houses, which could quickly be dismantled when royal inspectors were about to arrive.

Some years later, Gian Girolamo was sent to exile because of other offenses. The farmers in Itria Valley kept to this method of building the trulli, as their specific architecture of solid natural stone with very strong walls and small windows provides good protection against the heat in summer and keeps the warmth inside in winter.

The beautiful holiday apartments

The owner of I due Trulli has put a lot of work into restoring the old stone houses and has turned them into modern, comfortable holiday apartments.

There are altogether 4 trulli on the 20,000 m² premises, a great part of which are planted with olive trees. We have chosen for you apartments Fico d’India, Ulivo and San Michele, which accommodate up to 4 persons each.

Holiday apartment Ulivo includes a living room with couch, dining furniture and fireplace, a bathroom (shower/WC/bidet) and a kitchen (incl. refrigerator, oven, microwave, gas stove).
The trullo has one bedroom (double bed) and a sleeping gallery, which is accessible via a ladder from the bedroom and offers sleeping facilities for two.

Holiday apartment Fico d’India includes a living area with dining furniture and fireplace, a kitchen (incl. refrigerator, gas stove, oven, microwave), a bathroom (bathtub/WC/bidet) and two bedrooms (double bed each).

Trullo San Michele includes a living area with fireplace and adjoining dining area, a kitchen (incl. refrigerator, oven, gas stove, microwave, dishwasher), two bedrooms (double bed + single bed; double bed) and a bathroom (shower/WC/bidet).

Furnishing of the trulli also includes free WiFi, washing machine, gas heating, SAT-TV or TV (San Michele). 

Outdoor area of the holiday apartments

Each trullo includes a private outdoor area with furnished terrace, where you find a table and chairs, sun loungers, a sunshade and an outdoor shower are at your disposal.

Parking: You can park your car on the fenced premises.

Cool off under the olive trees

The pool for the holiday flats will be completed in June 2024 and, with a surface area of 40 m2, will offer guests a wonderful way to cool off on hot summer days.

Surroundings

I due Trulli is located 3 km from Cisternino, where you find bars, restaurants and grocery stores open year-round.
The small town on a rise is proud to be called 'Uno dei borghi più belli d'Italia' (One of Italy's most beautiful villages) and 'Città Slow'.

At bathing resort Torre Canne 13 km off, you can spend a lovely day at the seaside.

Tip for an excursion - Egnazia

If you are interested in culture, allow for a visit to Egnazia. The archaeological site above the sea counts among the most impressive in Apulia.

At the Archeological Museum, the history of settlement is documented by findings displayed in chronological order. From the museum, a foot path leads to the excavation sites.

At the foot of the acropolis, there is a lovely small bathing beach. Take along your diving goggles, because under water you get to see the quay walls of the Roman harbor.
