If you want to see it for yourself, the beauty of the sea in Apulia, Santa Maria di Leuca is a perfect place to go to. Santa Maria di Leuca is a seaside and fishing village located in the bay between Punta Ristola and Capo Santa Maria di Leuca – a fascinating spot where the Adriatic and Ionian Seas meet.
At this southernmost point of Apulia rocky cliffs alternate with small sandy bays. The crystal-clear waters of the sea are simply perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The numerous grottoes are a paradise for divers.
Only 50 m from the gorgeous coast, on the western lungomare, lies old-established, family-run Hotel Rizieri.
The hotel houses 24 guest rooms as well as a restaurant, the latter adorned by a beautiful arched ceiling. From a culinary point of view you are sure to get your money's worth - the restaurant's offer ranges from homemade pasta with seafood to typical Italian "dolci". The various Mediterranean specialties are served in tasteful atmosphere.
The well-tended rooms include bathroom, TV, telephone and air conditioning as well as a share of terrace with sea view, on which you can relax and enjoy the view, the sun or romantic sunsets.
Upon request, the hotel organizes professionally guided sight-seeing tours to the fascinating grottoes for you. If you love the sea and if you are interested in fishing, you might seize the opportunity to take part in fishing onsite – the necessary equipment is provided.
Parking is available in front of the hotel. Upon request, parking may also be available on locked premises. Please check on this onsite.
Above the bay, at the tip of the cape, the white lighthouse stands 47 m tall near baroque pilgrimage church Santuario Santa Maria di Leuca. From there you have got a marvelous view of the village, the surroundings and the seemingly boundless sea.
Quite a number of noblemen’s villas (ex. in our picture gallery) still bear witness to the fact that the once glamorous seaside resort of Santa Maria di Leuca was highly attractive at the turn of the century.
From S. Maria di Leuca you can easily explore and discover both the Ionian coast and the Adriatic coast of the Salento. The latter in particular is well worth an excursion. Along the winding coastal road towards Otranto you not only meet with breathtaking vistas, but also come across a lot of spots where you can stop to enjoy cooling off in the turquoise-colored sea.
Vacationers interested in culture get their money's worth, too. Gallipoli with its charming Old Town in fascinating location on an island is of Greek origin and rich in history. The impressive Baroque town of Lecce, also known as the Florence of the South, is located about 70 km to the north and, like many other culturally interesting sights/sites, well worth an excursion and a closer look.
